Casey Vandeputte is the successor to a law practice that was established in 1944 in Dundas, Ontario. His practice focuses on Corporate Law, Real Estate, Wills & Estates and Estate Litigation. The Corporate Law practice focuses on buying and selling businesses, succession planning for the family business, and real estate investments.
Casey has a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo. Prior to practicing law, he worked for Research In Motion/BlackBerry in Product Development, where he brought new products to wireless carrier partners throughout Latin America and the United States. While attending law school at Western University, he continued to work at RIM in their patents group, helping to build an industry leading patent portfolio. After being called to the Bar, he provided consulting services to high-tech organizations in winning patenting strategies.
Casey is an amateur bridge player, and enjoys cooking and fishing.
Whitney Smith is an associate lawyer with Vandeputte Law, practicing primarily in the area of family law, and secondarily in real estate and civil litigation. She has significant experience in family law, having practiced exclusively in the area prior to joining Vandeputte Law in 2017. Although she is a strong advocate in the courtroom, her area of expertise is in negotiation, and she has a reputation for settling previously “unresolvable” matters favourably for her clients, at minimal cost.
Whitney earned her law degree from the University of Toronto in 2012, where she held a leadership role with the Family Law Project, an award-winning pro bono initiative that provides family law services to low-income, self-represented litigants. Previously, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from McGill University.
Passionate about community involvement, Whitney serves as a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as on a leadership committee with the United Way. She resides in Hamilton with her family.
Kari Johnson is an associate lawyer at Vandeputte law who joined the firm in 2018 to help with coverage of Whitney’s files while she is on maternity leave as well as to help out as needed in virtually every other practice area as well. Kari articled and practiced at a general practice, gaining varied experience in Family Law, Civil Litigation, Wills & Estates matters and Corporate Law. From there she moved on to a very busy exclusively Real Estate firm where she was the point of contact for clients purchasing new build homes and condominiums and those experiencing issues on closing day. She brings her enthusiasm for helping clients understand the law and solve their legal problems to Vandeputte law
Kari earned her law degree at the University of Western Ontario in 2013 and was called to the bar in 2016. Previously she earned a Honours Bachelors of Arts in Legal Studies from the University of Waterloo.
Kari is a passionate equestrian and outside of the office can generally be found either at the farm with her horses or at home with her family and dog.
